Habitat Kicks Off Four Unit Condominium Project

One of Habitat's most unique summer projects is the first four of 16 condominiums located off of Kalamazoo and 28th Street. The Dawes Ct. build has been generously undertaken by an anonymous sponsor who not only is providing the funding, but the majority of volunteers as well! This is the first condominium project of its kind undertaken by HFHKC.

The Dawes Ct. condos will be LEED-certified, environmentally friendly structures with universal access throughout, ensuring that not only those with physical challenges are welcome, but their guests are as well. Condos will have 2-3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and a single stall garage.

LEED-certified housing also saves homebuyers an average of $1,000 per year in utility costs - a critical factor when struggling to make ends meet.

HFHKC Executive Director Pam Doty-Nation notes, "This multi-unit housing development truly maximizes Habitat's building efforts as we are faced with increased land scarcity. We also are extremely efficient with our volunteer crews and construction equipment as everything needed is in one central location."

Dawes Ct. children will also enjoy Habitat for Play, an environmentally friendly, green built, multi-structural play land including swings, a climbing wall, look out tower, slide, and protected sand box. Habitat for Play was designed by Steelcase and built by D&D Builders in celebration of HFHKC's 25th anniversary. It was raffled off at the Rock the Block April 25th party, and the winner, a Steelcase employee, donated it back to Habitat for Daws condominiums.
