Meet our newest board members!

We’re excited to introduce our four newest board members: Karla Amaya-Leone, Mike Bellovich, Duff Lewis, and Kyle Visser!

Karla Amaya-Leone

Karla is originally from California where she earned her degree from San Francisco State University before moving to West Michigan in 2012. She, her husband, and their young daughter have come to love experiencing all four seasons of the year here in Michigan.

Karla is a founding partner of Edison Brokers + Co, owner of Home Sweet Homes, and a real estate investor. With over a decade of experience serving real estate clients, she’s passionate about creating a personalized, stress-free homebuying and selling experience. She strives to blend professionalism with the hospitality and warmth of her Latin heritage, helping clients feel supported and empowered on their journeys.

Karla also serves on the boards of The Ronald McDonald House, The Hispanic Center of West Michigan, and The East Hills Council of Neighbors, and tutors at Martin Luther King Leadership Academy and as a member of the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Trinity Health. Recently, she was also selected to be part of the 2025 Leadership Grand Rapids cohort.

In joining our board, she’s excited to further her mission of helping families and fostering meaningful change in the city.

Mike Bellovich

Mike, a Chicago native, enjoys now living in and exploring West Michigan with his wife and four children. He also likes to spend time golfing, skiing, and bird hunting. After graduating from Hope College, he worked across a variety of industries while focusing on finance and real estate development and construction. He now leads the Midwest Construction and Real Estate practice as a Commercial Advisor for OVD Insurance

Mike volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Detroit when he was younger, so he’s eager to join our board, put his skillset to use, and continue serving the mission of Habitat.

Duff Lewis

Duff is a retired Marketing Executive, husband, father of three, and grandfather of four. He’s worked for several major corporations in the area including Amway, Perrigo, and Johnson Controls. In addition to Habitat Kent, he’s also involved with Grand Rapids Schools and his church.

Throughout his career, he has seen many positive changes in Grand Rapids, helping it become a thriving, vibrant city. However, he also recognizes that these changes have placed a significant amount of stress on the housing market, making it unaffordable for many people living in the area.

Duff says, “For this reason, I am excited to serve on the Habitat Kent board as they seek to strengthen the community through innovative approaches to the affordable housing market.”

Kyle Visser

Kyle, his wife, and their three kids love being part of the greater Grand Rapids community. They also enjoy traveling as a family and most recently went to Paris for the Summer Olympics. He’s a former professional basketball player, having played internationally for eight years before moving back to the area. Now, he enjoys golf as a competitive hobby.

He is the Broker-Owner of ReSIDE Grand Rapids, a boutique real estate brokerage headquartered in Eastown, and is an investor in real estate, owning several rental properties and restoring historic homes. He enjoys assisting clients from all stages of life with their housing needs and has been awarded as the top realtor in Grand Rapids for two years in a row.

To pair his love of all things housing with giving back to the community, he joined Habitat Kent’s board to put his real estate expertise to further use with our organization.

Welcome to the Team

We’re grateful to have Karla, Mike, Duff, and Kyle join our team and for the skills and insights they bring to our organization. We look forward to working together to strengthen our community through affordable homeownership!
