A Home of Their Own: Amanda and Brandon’s Story

Amanda and Brandon had hopes of owning their own home but didn’t think it was possible. Amanda explains, “I didn’t know how we could afford anything in this housing market. Everything we could afford needed tons of repairs to make it livable.”
When they came across Habitat, their minds changed. Once enrolled in our program, Amanda liked how supported she felt by Habitat Kent staff. She says, “That was really helpful because I had never done this. So, knowing the next steps, what I needed to gather, and what I needed to do was helpful.” Now that they are homeowners, Amanda says, “This is the best thing that happened,” and they love their Habitat home. She says that even the small details, like having enough storage space, show all of the thought that went into designing the house to be a home.
She and Brandon also love having a big yard where their daughter can play with the next-door neighbors.
Today, Amanda still feels connected to Habitat and loves getting monthly emails with all of the Habitat news and upcoming events.
Nearly a year after becoming homeowners, Amanda says their home has brought them peace of mind. They feel less stressed knowing that the house is theirs, they can make any changes they want, and they can still afford to do other things like send their daughter to her favorite camp. Amanda says, “It’s brought our family closer. Now we get to say, ‘we’re going home’, and it actually is our home, not a place we’re renting. We are set; this house is for us.”
